The Motorola PEBL elevates mobile design to a new level. Created with a smooth oval form and innovative dual-hinge mechanism to open and close the device with one swift, delicate motion, this handset is a true mobile accessory.  Its sophisticated look and feel are complemented by discreet hi-tech capabilities including video capture and playback, and Bluetooth® wireless technology*.  With chic simplicity, the subtly stylish Motorola PEBL adds a calming convenience to your everyday travels.

The Motorola PEBL is a tri-band handset that is round and smooth in shape. It measures 49mm x 86.5mm x 20mm and weighs 110g.  The new feature on this phone has to do with a unique opening mechanism that allows for easy operation of opening the phone with one hand.  It's highly polished metal finish adds a glossy, elegant look. Other features include an integrated Bluetooth(R) wireless technology, a 5MB memory and VGA camera, this tri-band phone is an understated hi-tech package.

Convenient soft keys are placed along the left and right edges. Along the left, Volume Keys adjust earpiece and ringer volumes during calls and standby times. While below, a Smart Key performs operations by predicting likely actions to follow, such as selecting a menu item after it has been highlighted. Functions to record messages and initiate voice dialing are activated via a Voice Key along the right side. Incorporated within the top edge, a mini-USB data port allows consumers to synchronize with a PC, also doubling as the charging port.

Gain your wireless independence. The new Motorola PEBL comes with built-in Bluetooth® functionality so you can talk freely on a wireless headset, sync up seamlessly with your PC** and other compatible Bluetooth® devices. NOTE: Bluetooth® devices are for voice calls only. *Only for voice calls. **Requires Mac OS v10.3.6 or later, or Windows 2000 or Windows XP

Camera.

The device is equipped with a VGA-camera, which is a typical solution well known by all the triplets, no flash as well as any peculiarities. The camera is quite enough to take photos of people and use the photos in the phone book.
The camera allows not only taking photos but also recording video (3GP). The record may be called from the multimedia menu and then video. The duration of a record may be limited for a MMS or maximum (about 30 seconds). Two resolutions are supported 128x96 pixels and 176x144 pixels. Voice recording may be turned off. The quality of the video is average and the artifacts are seen on the screen. That was hard to expect the device will show any eminent features in recording video and it is typical and doesn't differ from other models. The time that saving the video takes almost equals that necessary for recording and that is a disadvantage. While other camera-phones have progressed beyond 1-megapixel to 2- and above, the PEBL's 0.3-megapixel camera can only capture photos at 640 x 480 px in size; disappointingly similar to previous generation devices released last year.

Conclusion

Even if you need a phone or not, you should play with the phone in a shop, consider its possibilities and compare your impressions with the ones reported here. I'm sure many of you will appreciate the efforts of Motorola's designers at their true value and probably will find a new phone. The device is really durable, and that is one of the best designers' solutions in mobile world in 2005.
